Event 3 blog

Last Saturday, June 3rd, I attended the "Color Light Motion Series" hosted by Claudia Schnugg on Zoom. Most of the event showcased unique pieces that blended art and technology. I want to share my experience / favorite pieces.

First, here's a screenshot of my email confirmation for the event.

One piece of artwork that genuinely caught my eye was Clyde Lynds' Spectral Wind. The vibrant colors and flowing movements created a harmonious visual symphony. It reminded me of our discussions in class about the power of color in art and its ability to evoke emotions. The medium of a singular piece of concrete with fiber optic lights was unique (UCLA).

Another excellent piece was Marco Barotti’s series of sculptures, APES, driven by data consumption and cyber-attacks. As the sculptures moved and emitted sounds, they told the story of the invisible forces shaping our digital lives. It was also super cool to have an interpolation of data as audio (Barotti). It made me think about the back-and-forth relationship between art and technology. Spinning Shaft was another mesmerizing artwork that combined aesthetics with engineering. It's precise mechanics and rhythmic motion showcased the possibilities of merging art and innovation. It has inspired me to think outside the box and experiment with unconventional approaches in my creative projects (Preduce).

I highly recommend the "Color Light Motion Series" to my classmates and anyone seeking an immersive artistic experience. I don’t think the Zoom is happening again soon, but the event made me question how I use media as an artist and how I can, like these artists, combine aspects of other mediums to enhance my pieces. "The Color Light Motion Series" on Zoom was an awe-inspiring journey into art, technology, and boundless creativity. From Clyde Lynds' Spectral Wind to APES' kinetic sound sculptures and Spinning Shaft, each artwork left an indelible mark on my artistic perspective. It was an experience that reminded me of the endless possibilities when art and technology converge.
